Desiring God
The Gospel Coalition

I (Jess) recently created an abbreviated list of my favorite books! I could not recommend these books enough! Click on the title to go to a full summary of the book.

Growing with God
Crazy Love- Feel like your missing something in your relationship with God? This book challenges our mundane response to a God that actually loves us.

Counterfeit Gods- We spend most of our life making gods out of success, friends, relationships, our reputations, etc. How do we identify these fake gods and put God back on the throne?

Prodigal God-  Many have heard the story of the Prodigal Son who ran away from his father. This is the story from God's view in a way that will seriously change your life.

The Cross Centered Life- We will never move on from making the death and resurrection of Jesus the center of our life.

Don't Waste Your Life- If you only have 80 years on this planet, how will you use it so it is not wasted? What does Jesus say about how to spend our lives?

Hole in our Holiness - How do we grow as Christians? What does pursuing godliness actually look like? Don't be fooled by its short page numbers and humor; t is an incredibly challenging book.

Decision Making
Just Do Something-Very short, practical and life changing book on how to make wise decisions.

Understanding Christianity
Doctrine- Goes through every belief in Christianity and explains it in depth but in plain English. I am learning so much right now!

The Reason for God- This NYC Pastor addresses many issues people have to believing Christianity

Holy Ground: Best book I have ever read on the difference and similarities between Catholicism and Evangelical Christianity and how to talk to friends and family that are trying to understand their faith as well

Relationships

When Sinner's Say I Do- If you are dating or ever want to date you HAVE to read this book!!! It is not just a "marriage" book. It is about having Gospel centered relationships

This Momentary Marriage- Best biblical analysis for the purpose of relationships and the male and female role in them. Mostly on Ephesians 5

Growing as a Woman
Let Me Be a Woman: Elisabeth Elliot writes a collection of letters to her daughter giving her biblical wisdom about womanhood

Girls Gone Wise in a World Gone Wild: Corny title but one of the most challenging books on how as women we have conformed so quickly to the world's idea of womanhood. Takes you through proverbs as you explore many topics.

Missions/Gods view of the World
Heavenly Man- The story of a Chinese pastor and the persecution his church faces in the 1990's. You will be shocked!!!

Fireseeds- Want to see a spiritual revival happen in your house, campus, and world!?!  The Holy Spirit WILL move!!

Operation World: Everyday learn and pray about a different country and their specific needs for the love of Jesus to spread amongst the nations.

Ministry
Master Plan of Evangelism- Want to learn more about how to disciple? Great book on how to influence people for Christ through discipleship

Questioning Evangelism- Not only does it help clear up many questions about Christianity but teaches how to best explain your faith to people with the same questions

Fiction

Imaginary Jesus: A story written by the speaker at PCB. Alex LOVED this book and how it made him think of the fake Jesus he has created in his brain.

Redeeming Love: A romance novel that parallels the book of Hosea in the Bible which ultimately portrays Christs redeeming love for his people. A great book that's character development will suck you in!

The Great Divorce: A memorable C.S. Lewis book that encounters people in the afterlife.

Other
Humility- The name says it all. An incredibly challenging book. I could read this every year.

Worldliness- We are so swayed and influenced by our culture. This book looks at our music, movies, clothes, and our possessions, and points out how we have fallen into the world's ideas for what is right.

Heaven- Most comprehensive book I have ever read about heaven. Pick and choose what chapters interest you or read straight through.

Money and Marriage-  A practical book about how to do finances in a God glorifying way. (not just for married's although the book is very practical if you are.) Bonus: Alex and I were interviewed and used as examples a few times throughout the book... try to find us. :)
